Turning heads on May 30

Its not a mystery why the Camaro has been turning heads since its unvailing. On May 30, 2010 the Camaro will undoubtedly turn heads but this time in a circular fashion while it races around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as this years pace car. This will be the Camaro's sixth appearance since its debut in 1967.

The 2010 Camaro is equipped with a stock 6.2-litre V8 engine that unleashes 400hp. The exterior includes an all-new front grille insert that Chevrolet plans to offer as a future Camaro accessory, 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo badges on front fenders, amber lens tail lamps, and 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo painted on the doors and embroidered on driver and passenger headrests.

2010 Yenko Chevrolet Camaro Prototype

2010 Yenko Chevrolet Camaro Prototype - Auto ShowsHonoring the Yenko legends of the ‘60s with a new-school Camaro.

BY JAKE HOLMES AND JON YANCA
November 2009

Back in the 1960s, Don Yenko was the man responsible for a slew of go-fast GM cars—nearly everything from the Corvair to the Camaro got extra power and improved handling thanks to the GM Central Office Production Order (COPO) strategy that helped Yenko turn those specially ordered cars into street legends. Five decades on, General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI) has purchased the licensing rights to the Yenko name and intends to resurrect the Yenko Super Car with a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS upgraded and restyled to recall those historic icons.

Comparison: 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 vs 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Who's King of the Modern Ponycar Hill?

"Not fair!" howled a bunch of Ford fans when we pitted the 2010 Mustang GT against Chevy's new Camaro, and it lost. "What about the Shelby GT500? You should be comparing the top-of-the-range Camaro with the top-of-the-range Mustang."

Hey, it's not our fault Ford brought a knife to a gunfight. The simple truth is you can buy a 426-horsepower Camaro for the same money as a 315-horsepower Mustang. In fact, order a GT Premium with the TrackPack -- the only way to get the GT500-inspired suspension upgrades, 3.73 rear axle, dual-piston front calipers, recalibrated stability control system, plus the 19-inch wheels and tires that make the 2010 Mustang such a blast through the twisties -- and you'll pay about 1500 bucks more than you would for a 1SS-spec Camaro, which comes standard with Pirelli tires, Brembo brakes, a six speed manual transmission, and a 21st-century rear suspension.
